Presenter David Brooks explores the efforts to tame the waters of the Schoharie Creek as the original Erie Canal would cross through its swift flow. Find out who constructed the first dam in 1822, and how that is connected to other landmarks in New York. Discover the various ways the creek was changed, dammed, and how that would lead to the construction of the engineering marvel, the Schoharie Creek Aqueduct.

Schoharie Crossing is an Erie Canal historic site, operated by NYS Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. On site are Nationally Registered Historic Landmarks. 

David Brooks is the Education Director for Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site. He has worked at the site since 2014 and is also a member of the board of trustees for the Montgomery County Historical Society, sits on the board for the Fulton County Historical Society, is a past president of the Mohawk Valley Museums Consortium, and is also a current member of various other organizations devoted to the preservation of history in New York State.
